Why have two SDK versions? (one for subscriber and one for non-subscriber)

Hello guys,

First and foremost, let me say that I am having a BLAST with Corona!

Having said that, I am still puzzled about why the SDK with different for subscriber and non-subscriber? Of course i got the fact that people who buy should get something extra but different builds? The main goal of using Corona is to distribute an app. People who buy the subscription already got something in term of being able to distribute their apps.

In my point of view (and I am sure also many who did not subscribe yet) more features in the private daily builds would not push me to buy faster. The only thing which would push me to click the “buy” button will be to be ready to publish my app! All a different build (public versus private) is to add more work at the end since the app will need to be tweaked to run under the most recent builds. It also slows the dev since many times, the most current build may have fixed bugs or add features that would be needed.

Of course these issues could be resolved by simply having a single build available to all. Once again, without a subscription, nothing happens in term of publishing an app. It is not like the Corona SDK needed to be protected since Ansca controls the kill switch (ie: the build server) Another solution would be to speed up the releases of public builds but it is not ideal. A single build would also reduce the customer service aspect since everybody would be working from the same page so to speak.

Of course it could be just that Ansca wants to keep two builds because it helps for the maintenance (early adapters cleanup the build)

Anyway I love Corona but this question of two builds always puzzled me…

Thanks Ansca.
