Why I want Corona to build for Mac and PC

Hi!

I use Corona for almost a year now and I think it’s an unbelievable great 2D game SDK.
I’m working hard to finish my first game who should come out in march/april.

The thing is it’s cool to have multiple opportunity to monetize your mobile app with things like advertising, IAP and Super Reward but the biggest opportunity, for me, it’s simply to be able to make desktop games.

Today, a mobile app is just a piece of the cake. The gold rush on iOS is over. Don’t even talk about Android.

More than ever, games need to be cross-platform.

As I said, Corona is the best SDK to make 2D indie games. When I look at 2D SDK that build for desktop, I just want to run away. They look very amateur and technically limited.
Corona offers everything an indie needs to make great games. It’s such a shame it’s not possible to bring this games to desktops.
Plus, when I look at my game running in the simulator I’m just thinking it doesn’t miss much to achieve this.

Desktop is where indie games players are. And when you see the numbers coming from numerous indie bundles, you can’t deny there is a wide audience and great monetizing opportunities.

I saw a Tweet from Carlos saying that Corona will build for Mac AppStore in 2012. This is such a relief! But I can’t wait to be able to build native Mac and PC apps.
And why not Flash and HTML5?

To sum this up, Corona can be the best cross-platform 2D game SDK! Keep it up! [import]uid: 25327 topic_id: 19098 reply_id: 319098[/import]

As a reminder, when Carlos said that Corona will build for Mac AppStore in 2012, keep in mind that before an app is submitted to the Mac app store, it must first be a native Mac app.

Actually submitting the app to the Mac App Store is completely up to you. If you’d rather distribute it on your own, then you’ll have the .app file to do so at that point

With Corona, you also get a .app file, you just can’t do anything with it unless in the app store. On the Mac, however, it’s a different ball park. [import]uid: 52430 topic_id: 19098 reply_id: 73681[/import]

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for clarifying this. This is great news!

So, I guess, I just need to wait for the PC build announcement to be the happiest developer.
Make it happen! [import]uid: 25327 topic_id: 19098 reply_id: 73711[/import]

I’d like the feature to create an executable for mac now! :frowning: [import]uid: 111106 topic_id: 19098 reply_id: 74644[/import]
