4-Hour Corona Game Jam (aka Corona Blitz) (1-8 April)

No my suggestion was to try and extend the marketplace contest to allow jam entries to be included, but as @roaminggamer pointed out, a four hour project isn’t likely going to be a good submission.

When planning this, please keep in mind that Ludum Dare 38 is April 21-24. So you probably want to avoid that weekend if possible.

Rob

@adrianm, this is no different than any other game jam. We’ll find out some themes like “olympics” and you’ll make a game about “olympics” in the jam period. It doesn’t necessarily needs to be about any olympic game but somehow, you need to connect it to the theme. You can even make a game about two people talking about olympics and our choices will affect how the conversation goes.

In Corona Blitz , you’ll have only 4 hours to create that game but have a 1 week period which means you can only spend 4 hours making one of your games but you are free to use your time in that 1 week span. Let’s say you only have 1 hour that you can spend daily on that game which means you can make it in 4 days, spending 1 hour each day.

@Rob Miracle, thanks for the heads up. Is there any other important / well known event that will get in our way? I am thinking about 1 April - 8 April period by the way.

@Everyone, here are some of the topics I’m thinking about for the jam. I will open another poll for that after getting your suggestions.

  • Robotics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Jokes
  • Civil / Digital Rights
  • No theme / Free for All

@everyone, how about we start the Blitz on April 1st and end it on April 8th?

Works for me.

I will give this a go, I have never participated in a game-jam before, so am looking forward to it.

I can do that.

Count me in.

If it involves city building I’ve got this… otherwise I have no libraries, assets or anything else so am somewhat at a disadvantage.

Great! I’ve just started the “topic selection” topic and you’re all invited!!

@adrianm, don’t worry. I’ll also probably go in with just circles and rectangles.

Please continue this conversation at the above link.

I think this is a great idea.

Rob

Yeah… I’d be down for something like that.

5 votes so far. Not great but it’s something, right?

By the way, if you all could share your preferred timeframe with us that would really help us determine the dates for the jam.

I’m down. :metal::smile::metal:

I know this got posted to a couple of outside channels. Maybe this will be a good candidate for the biweekly From the Forum post which would also cause it to go out in next week’s newsletter and get shared out to Facebook and Twitter as well.

Rob

Itch.io makes it easy to host Jams, BTW…

https://itch.io/docs/creators/game-jams

Sure thing.

Four hours is a bit long for you, @roaminggamer. I’ll be expecting three or four entries

Thank you for your suggestions @no2games. I was also thinking about using itch.io. It’s pretty easy to handle and far more reliable than hosting on a custom page.

@nick_sherman, I guess our first rule is here: Submit as many games as you want!

@Rob Miracle, are you aware of any other pages/channels out there that we can create some buzz and maybe attract some non-Corona developers to the jam? There is a chance that other Lua developers(Gideros, LÖVE, Marmalade etc.) might also be interested.

While this is just in the “gauging interest” phase, I can’t do much more than drop it in a few social channels. It’s going to be the lead item in tomorrows From the Forum’s post, which will get shared out to our social media channels. It will also be in the newsletter next Thursday since the FTF posts get added to that newsletter.

Now once you have something firm: Date Range, itch.io page setup, theme, rules, etc., then I would consider a dedicated blog post for it and a more prominent location in the newsletter.
