may I recommend Alfred as my app launcher of choice? [import]uid: 7116 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 20265[/import]

@dknell Do you know how to setup alfred to search this forum? I have tried but not successfully. [import]uid: 8192 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 20787[/import]

While we’re at it, how about Gumbo? I think it’s pretty great! A simple tool for making your layout, levels and GUI. It also includes a pretty good shape editor.

Works in your browser or as a standalone Mac/Windows application. Oh, and it’s free! As in free beer.
Try it here:

Gumbo

Or read more about it in this thread.

You can use this link instead ColorSchemer Studio.
It is more cheaper

PhysicsEditor: http://www.physicseditor.de
It’s from the same guy that made TexturePacker.

A real time saver!

WebStorm is a great editor

I can add that I use DropBox for my Corona files, and JetBrains WebStorm as my editor. I hop back and forth from my PC to my Mac using Webstorm on both with current source immediatly available on both.

I’ve tried other editors, but TextMate only works on Mac and NotePad++ only works on the PC, so I settled on WebStorm on both machines (after finding it for my html and JavaScript programming). There is a lua bundle available, but it needs work.

I recently purchased Path Finder from http://www.cocoatech.com/

It is a finder replacement, and makes me much more productive. I think Apple should just buy out the product and replace the finder with this.

You have to pay for this - 39.95 - a bit steep, but it pays for itself quickly in time savings.

Highly recommended. [import]uid: 13932 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 24881[/import]

@PeterBailey I totally agree. That was one of the first things I bought after my Mac purchase. Well worth the money. [import]uid: 12090 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 25545[/import]

I use Kod as my editor. It’s a pretty nice free app that I find very pleasing to use. It somewhat reminds me of TextMate (and Google Chrome), but this is a free, not as functional, alternative. Been using it since my first time to work with Corona, and haven’t used anything else so far.

It’s only in beta though, and it has the tendency to crash every now and then. [import]uid: 45459 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 28507[/import]

Here are a couple more apps I rely on heavily for development:

  • Alfred - FREE
I have been a long time fan of Quicksilver but it has finally met it’s match. Alfred is a very powerful app launcher, search utility, and productivity app. Say goodbye to Quicksilver, Launchbar, and Google Desktop Search.

  • VisualDiffer - $3.99
Compare files and track changes in style! I currently use Changes from Connected Flow (which is a great program, but pretty expensive), however if you need a graphical interface to diff, VisualDiffer looks like a great utility.

@amigoni,

Sorry for the late reply. To answer your question about how to setup Alfred to search the Corona forums - this is how to do it.

In the Alfred Preferences, click on Custom Searches:

* The field next to the Test button is not required, if you type something in that field and click Test it will simulate the search query.

Now you can invoke Alfred and type (without quotes) ‘corona essential mac apps’ and press enter.

Happy searching! [import]uid: 8194 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 28515[/import]

A new text editor that may dethrone TextMate.

  • Sublime Text - $59
It feels like I’ve been using TextMate forever. During that time I’ve tried many other text editors and IDE’s - knowing that sooner or later TextMate will collapse in the desert and be eaten by bobcats. As far as I’m concerned, a suitable replacement has not materialized until now. The alpha version of Sublime Text 2 has been making huge strides in the latest updates. I believe you can download the alpha for free for an extended period of time. Oh, and it’s available for OSX, Windows, and Linux. Check it out - Sublime Text 2 alpha

Is there any eclipse plug-ins for lua that will work well to code for corona apps? [import]uid: 6500 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 31721[/import]

Hey there…

I’m very very new to Corona, and taking my first tentative steps into it all…just trying to get my head around what does what…and whats the best way to do it before I do to much trial and error.

Just a tip, but for free colour/color palette creation, which compliment each other check out Adobes…

http://kuler.adobe.com/

Very cool website, and if your fortunate enough to use adobes illustrator you can download and import a created palette. These may or may not also be compatible with other software e.g. GIMP

Hope it helps someone… [import]uid: 47346 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 32079[/import]

Here’s a lot more information along those lines:

I’d add MacVim a Mac version of the Vim text editor. The editor is available here:

http://code.google.com/p/macvim/

A good, inexpensive Kindle book on Vim is available

A print version is also available

For vector graphics, I am a fan of OmniGraffle.

As for processing audio, I recommend AmadeusPro.

Thought I’d add more:

Cyberduck for FTP and all other file transfer protocols. Well worth a genereous donation.
Cheetah 3D for 3D stuff.
Preview – you’d be amazed how many time it saved my skin. [import]uid: 10968 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 34068[/import]
