Essential Mac apps for Corona development

I use SQLiteManager on Mac a lot. It’s available from the App Store, and only cost £10 when I bought it. [import]uid: 26769 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 44579[/import]

Hi all, am new to app dev using Corona.

Quite a bit of mention of BBEdit as text editor. What’s the advantages of using that, to say, TextWrangler? [import]uid: 55021 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 48130[/import]

Textmate is a great programmers editor.

Also, Lua syntax support via a bundle here:

@yikboontan,

Also check out Sublime Text 2. I have been switching back and forth between ST2 and TextMate for a while and am starting to like ST2 a little better. [import]uid: 8194 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 48150[/import]

Thanks PeterBailey and dknell. I’ll try both too. [import]uid: 55021 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 48462[/import]

Not sure if it’s been posted yet, but with BBEdit’s version 10 release they have dropped the price from 99 to 39 dollars :slight_smile: Thinking about picking it up myself from the app store. [import]uid: 10361 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 50438[/import]

@dknell,

Is there a Corona bundle for Sublime Text 2, just like TextMate?

I like the aesthetics of ST2, only thing preventing me from getting it over TextMate is the autocomplete for Corona functions, which is really neat tool that’s essential to have IMO. [import]uid: 55021 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 50692[/import]

I love Corona!! [import]uid: 6752 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 54072[/import]

Is there any way to record the iPhone screen directly, not through the simulator? (other than using a camera of course). It’ll be useful for capturing to make promotional videos. [import]uid: 55021 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 60159[/import]

only on jailbroken phones [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 60162[/import]

Can you elaborate?

If not direct video capture, how about capturing it through simulator? What’s the recommended software? Is there a way for XCode simulator to open a Corona-built app? [import]uid: 55021 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 60163[/import]

only screen capture as far as I know of
in build menu option to build for Xcode sim
I use jing pro for video screen capture although there are better solutions [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 60173[/import]

To take an iPhone or iPad screenshot, simply press the sleep button at the top of the iPhone or iPad and the home button at the same time. The screenshots are stored with your photos in the camera roll, so it is easy to get to them. [import]uid: 23636 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 60231[/import]

Agree with jacek…The only coding tool i ever use for any language is macvim…MACVIM is very much relevant for corona as all the coding has to be done by hand…

There is small learning curve but benefits are too many to list… [import]uid: 84539 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 63862[/import]

TextWrangler as an editor, and it’s free.

Also scratch the surface of OSX and see all the rich BSD UNIX tools underneath. Version control, text processing, etc… It’s free and included or easily accessible.

Been using TextMate for a long time and with the corona plugin it’s really good to work with. After a few days with Sublime Text I must say it will kick TextMates butt anytime, you can use the Corona plugin with it too. [import]uid: 13560 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 65300[/import]

Hi,

I’m a newcomer to Corona and Mac.
I have bought Pixelmator 2 based on the suggestions here and also did some research on the internet. It seemed to be a high praised software.

But the experience for me was a nightmare.
Pixelmator was not reliable (kept crashing at least 3 times a day, vector shape issues, layer manipulation was horrible).
I don’t know if there is something wrong about the version 2, but I wanted to warn people who would buy that software : the potential is here, but it’s just not reliable in a production workflow (at least in my own experience - some people would say the opposite).

The alternative seems to be Acorn but “people” say it’s still behind Pixelmator.

Can somebody make suggestions that are reliable and time-tested?
Apart from Photoshop, what do you use (intensively)?
Thank you! [import]uid: 95346 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 65411[/import]

Soundflower is also a good audio kit. It’s like a virtual switchboard for the Mac, allowing you to redirect input and output. http://cycling74.com/soundflower-landing-page/ [import]uid: 105010 topic_id: 2303 reply_id: 68181[/import]
