Nook HD App Rejections

I’m in a similar position…

I have 7 apps on B&N, for quite some time - and all was good with the color nook (my test device) and the nook tablet. My last builds were with build 840.

I must say the B&N response to make us build/test/deploy/and get rejected without a real device to test against, or not even have one available for the labs folks - is ultimately frustrating.

With the iphone 5 - we at least had xcode…

I too tried to get in with the deadline and used build 935 - but now the sound stutters, is staticy and skips even on my color nook… no joy.

Guess I’ll wait for the dust to settle, maybe get a device and take my time. As long as the apps are in before Thanksgiving will be my new goal. [import]uid: 9070 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127588[/import]

Hi everyone –

I work at Barnes & Noble. The Fail messages sent yesterday were part of our ongoing testing of existing apps (for NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet) on new devices. If you have submitted new apks based on Corona build 927 or later (we prefer the latest build) and the apps passed, then you can ignore the fail message and we apologize for the confusion.

If your app is not rebuilt, it will not be approved for the new NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ tablets. Please submit a new apk and we’ll test on new tablets and get you the results asap.

If your app is rebuilt and failing, we will give you detailed information about the failure so you can fix and resubmit for testing again.

Thanks,
Tom [import]uid: 133520 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127746[/import]

@Pixin, I use letterbox for all of my apps. No, I have not tried that piece of code but it’s not going to help based upon my issue. It’s simply showing a popup right at startup that says “This build is only supported on Nook. It will not work on any other device.”. So any code fixes won’t really help since something is happening during the build process that makes my apk invalid for Nook HD.

B&N has not responded to my request for more info. Anyone from the Corona team have suggestions on what could be happening? [import]uid: 84258 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127758[/import]

kbradford - the post right above yours is from Tom Chavez of Nook. As mentioned, you may have gotten a message that was about an older version of your app. If you have gotten an app approved recently, then you should be fine.

NOTE: As Tom wrote, and we have mentioned several times here and in our blog, you need to use a recent build. Specifically, you should use a build 927 or above to make sure you will be able to be approved for the NOOK HD. [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127767[/import]

Kevin, thanks very much. [import]uid: 40033 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127769[/import]

@DavidRangel, I understand what Tom said and I have not received any approval for my app at all since this new round of Nook HD testing. It has been rejected several times with the error message I have posted. And as I stated in the original post of this thread, I am using build 934.

I would really like someone from Corona to take my issue seriously. There is clearly a problem I’m having that is caused by the apk build process. The app is not crashing, it is simply closing with the message “This build is only supported on Nook. It will not work on any other device”. To me that is something Corona must be doing. I just got this back from B&N about my latest update (that where originally passed) but then I received an email yesterday said they did not pass on new HD devices.

Hi Chris,

Your fail “code” is the word Corona. It is a little confusing since the QA team didn’t have a number to assign that to. If you have a Corona application, you will need to rebuild your app with Corona’s daily build 934 or higher, test and resubmit to NOOK developer. There was a known incompatibility with the new HD and HD+ devices and earlier versions of the Corona build. I hope that helps, if you have further questions about your specific results, please submit a NOOK Developer Support request through the NOOK developer portal.

Thanks,
NOOK Developer Team

kbradford - I assure you we are taking this very seriously. That is also why we reached out to nook and had them post here.

I’ve read your posts - but I’m not sure I understand. You are seeing the “This build is only supported on Nook. It will not work on any other device” on an “old” nook device when you build and run??

If easier, can you just write to me at davidATcoronalabs? [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127779[/import]

@kbradford exactly! on the Nook with no problems, same as me and then all of a sudden! So it’s either a problem on the new devices which are running a different version of Android (is that right?) or a problem with the latest Corona builds. In my case I still don’t even know what they are talking about because I am unable to reproduce…so I am thinking it is device specific with the new HD as I only have the original tablet. In your case it is also probably device specific, or have you been able to personally test on the new devices? [import]uid: 8139 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127658[/import]

All my updates for Nook HD/HD+ were approved few days ago. At this moment, they have “In store or being queued for store” status.
But few minutes ago, I received an e-mail form B&N saying that “Our latest round of compatibility testing shows that the app(s) listed below has failed testing and will NOT be made available on our new NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ devices.” All our apps were listed. There should be Fail Case # but there was nothing, no reason…
There was just a recommendation to use Corona daily build 934 (or higher). I used 931 which was the highest available when I compiled the apps.
Do you think that I should recompile with 934 and submitt again? All our apps have approved status at this time. Maybe it’s just an error on B&N’s side… [import]uid: 7038 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127671[/import]

I also received an email from B&N with rejection. I submitted my game using daily build 934, and the reason for rejection is, oddly and simply, “Beetle Bounce: Corona”. No other reasons are given.

The email also stated: To ensure that users can discover your apps on the new devices, you must resolve any outstanding issues and re-submit your apps by this Friday, October 19.

It then went on to say: Special Note for Corona Developers: Please use daily build 934 (or higher) when re-compiling your apps.

But I did use daily build 934…

What am I to do now? Use 935 and resubmit? Or wait for… what? And for… how long? The submitted version (i.e., the game built with 934) did install, launch and play fine on NOOK Tablet. There appears to be nothing I can do to help resolve this except to wait for new daily build that would correct whatever it is that is causing my game to fail their test.

By the way, Kevin, you mentioned some of your apps were approved while the others were rejected. Are there any commonality among those that were rejected and those that were approved? With my game, I use physics engine & Flurry Analytics. Does any of your approved app use physics and/or Flurry?

Naomi

Edit: @Bohumil Vosicky, after reading your post, I checked NOOK Developer account, and mine also says “The application has passed technical review and is pending publication.” It’s dated yesterday. But the rejection notice email came just an hour ago… [import]uid: 67217 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127672[/import]

Same thing just happened to me. All apps were accepted a couple days ago. I used 928. Just got all 6 apps rejected in an email now. Reason: Corona. Hopefully this is a mistake. [import]uid: 79834 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127678[/import]

wow…didn’t realize so many people are still having problems until I read this. I have 3 apps built with 927 and they all passed, in fact I got the following email:

My app was just rejected for the same reason, but we have a new deadline - Oct 19th.’

Cublah—>are you using zoomEven in your config? Did you use the code Corona recommended on this page http://www.coronalabs.com/blog/2012/10/01/corona-update-on-nook-hd/? [import]uid: 40033 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127717[/import]

Correction- my app wasn’t rejected but failed the HD test.
[import]uid: 40033 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127718[/import]

Hi everyone - I just wrote to Nook Developer asking about this and requesting a response ASAP. We’ll get back to you as soon as we know more. [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127727[/import]

Thanks David! [import]uid: 40033 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127729[/import]

Thanks David.

Our 4 apps were rejected as well yesterday with the same email. [import]uid: 39506 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127732[/import]

@Naomi, the apps that were approved use the exact same features as the ones rejected. No Flurry, but all of them use physics. Nothing special or advanced, they are all children’s games and even use a lot of the same base code. But some are approved, while others are generating a pop-up that say it simply doesn’t work on Nook HD. Again, build 934, and approved on every other device (including Kindle HD). [import]uid: 84258 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127735[/import]

Kevin,

  1. were all of your apps using zoomEven?

  2. Do your apps include the workaround code Walter posted here http://www.coronalabs.com/blog/2012/10/01/corona-update-on-nook-hd/?

Thanks [import]uid: 40033 topic_id: 31982 reply_id: 127740[/import]
