[Old] Bling Bling - Whats ahead for you

I’ve been away from the forums and twitter feeds for a few weeks and was looking for any updates on the Corona UI… not finding anything :frowning: [import]uid: 11072 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 28386[/import]

I think Carlos posted on here somewhere about the guys finding a showstopping bug which was slowing the release of the UI.

Im dead keen too but hey we just have to sit tight, the guys are doing all they can I’m sure because it makes the product *even more* commercially attractive to current and potential mobile developers.

“Corona UI is access through the Corona SDK to native iPhone UI”

Was that actually stated? My impression is that CoronaUI is a recreation of the native UI elements. I could be wrong, and as long as it looks and acts the same, I don’t care which it is.

recreation of UI elements so that it is cross platform

i have shown a kitchen demo app i have and nobody knows is corona display elements. [import]uid: 24 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30375[/import]

Wouldn’t that look awfully weird that Android versions look exactly like iOS inside a Corona-built app? [import]uid: 6084 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30377[/import]

looks funny. i have shown it on the android and people have had to take a second look

[import]uid: 24 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30384[/import]

Hmmm, this seems slightly disappointing. I was under the impression coronaui would be native native not just simulated native as lots of developers have already created simulated functionality already with Jon Beebe most recently simulating the picker wheel. Have to wait and see how this pans out and looks in reality as it can still be cool. [import]uid: 33866 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30415[/import]

IMHO…

The Corona UI being completely lua is a much more maintainable solution and more easily cross platform. The initial development would be longer and perhaps more difficult, but the idea that simply providing a lua interface to native controls across the supported platforms is easier is a little naive - it’s simply never that easy because each platform will raise it’s own set of ugly issues. I would imagine (having been there in a roundabout sort of way) that making the code for an interface element a single-layer centric as possible would be the preferred choice.

Having said all that; The truly native controls would almost certainly perform faster.

Playing devils advocate yet again; Being able to have the controls sit anywhere in the display hierarchy (which the true native controls can’t, of course) is a much better solution and may well be the overriding fact.

Ok, brain dump over. It would be great to know what Carlos and the Gang (band name?) actually considered when starting the piece…

I have lots of opinions, but I going to wait to play with a beta before I say much more.

The wait has been excruciating, Carlos teased us too soon IMO  [import]uid: 11196 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30431[/import]

Yeah, but we love it! [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 30433[/import]

uhh… you are going to charge us for Corona UI? what the heck is going on here [import]uid: 19620 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31742[/import]

I assume the above is an advertisement for a non-ansca product… I mean… the product looks fine but it isn’t immediately clear that this is not the official corona UI… other than the google website address. [import]uid: 16901 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31745[/import]

I wonder whether gamehkmail can also “deliver flowers, cakes, chocolates and gift items to over 32 countries worldwide on the same day.” [import]uid: 11904 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31748[/import]

Haha yea, i was wondering if i was the only one that got spammed, i wonder if Ansca has any idea about it? [import]uid: 19620 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31752[/import]

Yeah, Carlos mentioned the flowers thing earlier. Not sure about this one… [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31754[/import]

coronaUI from gamehkmail is NOT the official coronaui… in fact, if he plans on selling it he should definitely consider changing the name to avoid copyright/trademark issues.

Also, I’m pretty sure Ansca knows about the flower spam considering Carlos has a reply in many of the threads that the spam was posted to (he probably gets email notification of replies just like we did–unless he has them turned off).

[import]uid: 7849 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31755[/import]

IMHO, what @gamehkmail is saying here is that he’s been working on this library but possibly didn’t know about or expect the Ansca CoronaUI any time soon.

Fair enough.

However, it does appear, from Carlos’ post, that CoronaUI will arrive this Thursday. I guess it’s unfortunate timing, but there’s always room for competition, eh? [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 6055 reply_id: 31758[/import]

Thank you gamehkmail for having gone and creating your own set of UI for Corona.

gamehkmail’s Corona UI is *NOT* the official Corona UI for our SDK.

See http://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2011/04/09/coronaui-confusion for details.

I have asked gamehkmail to change the name of his product as it is causing confusion.

Thank you.

So, you didn’t see this?..

Hi horacebury,
No, I don’t know CoronaUI will arrive this thursday. Hope they do such that I don’t have to create duplicated things.

Hi carlos,
Thanks for the reply. I have clarified it in my first post.

Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience caused.
