Push notifications

Hi there, I’m working on something with push notification that will be using Urban Airship. I would like to go live with support for Android but I don’t have clear insight into when push notifications will be released for Android. Can you provide a timeframe that it might be available? Thanks. [import]uid: 159274 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 331525[/import]

Hey David,

Good luck in getting a response. Everyone in the forums has been asking about android push notifications for ever.

This is pretty critical functionality, and google is moving away from C2DM and onto GCM: https://developers.google.com/android/c2dm/

It seems it was slated for around August release? [import]uid: 159274 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 125985[/import]

David K,

I’ve been posting repeatedly about this subject for months… I stepped it up after GCM. Two months ago I was told it would be done in August or last month. You’ll notice that the staff never replies to forum messages about this… It should not be very hard for them to add in. C2DM only took 5-6 little lines of code to work. I had a C2DM account, coded up an app in Eclipse and had pushes going from my site to my devices. Custom status bar icons and everything. I would’ve just done it that way but it would require our users to install 2 separate apps, just to provide push notification ( one to receive pushes/ open corona app, and our corona app)… so no.

I’m starting to think there trying to push the Android people into buying Enterprise… That was one answer I was given for push integration. The sales rep email stated that it was a $1000 for a year… so no

A new iphone just came out, were not getting push notification anytime soon…

Here’s a question that isn’t clear to me. If you had enterprise, could you in theory make this happen? How would it handle compiling both targets with the same functionality?

Ansca mobile would you please comment on this? [import]uid: 159274 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126061[/import]

Its already available in the IOS version of corona… has been for about a year or so. GCM is relatively new, but should be simple for them to include. Yet it doesn’t seem to be a priority. I can do without mapview. [import]uid: 55582 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126065[/import]

I did realize it was in the iOS actually. I was wondering if with the enterprise version there would be some way to facilitate without breaking the iOS/maintaining compatibility as a work around. Is this remotely feasible? [import]uid: 159274 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126068[/import]

don’t now… never done it for IOS [import]uid: 55582 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126122[/import]

Hi Everyone - I wanted to quickly comment on this.

We are working on Android push notifications as we speak and they should be in a daily build in a matter of a couple of weeks. I dont have a hard date, but it is a priority and, again, being worked on right now.

@attudesign - I want to be clear, we are *not* trying to push anyone to buy Enterprise in any way
But we also have to be honest about our ability to deliver the tons of features everyone is requesting. If someone needs something that we haven’t gotten to yet (or for whatever reason won’t for a while), then very often, a reasonable option will be to use Corona Enterprise.

In any case, Android push is coming pretty soon!

David,

Ok… it just seemed that way with the non-discussion of android push and the always open-ended timeframe. I just didn’t see why I should have to buy Enterprise just to do push notifications. Its really the only thing more I will be asking for, for some time. I have a couple 2-player games sitting on my computer and I basically quit on them because of no push in Android.

So in a few weeks would be GREAT…

I enjoy using Corona…

attudesign - I completely understand. Also agree you shouldn’t have to buy Enterprise for a feature we are/were going to add soon. Good news is that it’s coming pretty soon!

Thanks for the update, David! This has been a sticking point for me releasing my app and I’m happy to hear we are getting close. [import]uid: 134485 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126226[/import]
