Push notifications

David,

Ok… it just seemed that way with the non-discussion of android push and the always open-ended timeframe. I just didn’t see why I should have to buy Enterprise just to do push notifications. Its really the only thing more I will be asking for, for some time. I have a couple 2-player games sitting on my computer and I basically quit on them because of no push in Android.

So in a few weeks would be GREAT…

I enjoy using Corona…

attudesign - I completely understand. Also agree you shouldn’t have to buy Enterprise for a feature we are/were going to add soon. Good news is that it’s coming pretty soon!

Thanks for the update, David! This has been a sticking point for me releasing my app and I’m happy to hear we are getting close. [import]uid: 134485 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126226[/import]

Don’t get too excited… its an open-ended date again. [import]uid: 55582 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 126712[/import]

There are plenty of people waiting on this… But in fairness to Corona Labs, lets look at a few facts.

First, they are a small team and only have so many man-hours in a day to produce things. They are actively hiring new positions but that takes time. But even if they had a large team, there is only X capacity for work in a given day/week/development cycle.

Two, different tasks are more time expensive than others. I don’t know how expensive this is, but I bet its not considered “Low Hanging Fruit”.

Three, some bugs have to be addressed ahead of new features. Many of the recent daily builds are bug fixes, many of them desperately needed.

Four, at least in Corona’s Case, they are dependent on an upstream vendor, be it Apple, Google, Amazon, Barnes and Noble or the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and third party things like InMobi, Inneractive, Gree/Openfeint etc. When the upstream vendor makes changes that breaks your product and our ability to develop for that, you kind of have to stop and deal with that right away. Its one of those cases where “Lack of planning on your part (the Apple’s and Nooks) does become an Emergency on my part”. Even in my day job, we have to deal with bombs chucked into our system by third party changes. You have to stop and fix it and you can bitch and moan about it, but at the end of the day, you suck it up and do your best and push back the things you really want to be working on. This last situation has hammered Corona Labs over the past few months… well really going back to February:

Retina iPad – emergency fix to deal with the retina display…
Apple deprecating the UDID
Apple’s changes to Mt. Lion, including Xcode 4.3 etc.
Google Android 4.x support so we can use our Nexus 7’s.
Apple’s iOS 6 release: bug work arounds, etc.
Apple’s iPhone 5 required changes to use the extra screen real-estate
Amazon’s new Kindle’s, new sizes, changes in the status bar,
And most recently, the new Nooks and the fact they changed things so that Corona apps would not run without Corona changes and rebuilds.

Corona Labs is working hard, and will get to this, AdMob, IAP for Amazon and all the other things we want as soon as they can. Be aware Apple is chucking another surprise at them next week with the iPad Mini which you can bet is going to require work on their part. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 127716[/import]

I don’t doubt that they are working hard… I’m just asking because its always had an open-ended date that always involves in a month or two… or soon… or its coming… and for some reason no else ever posts on this? 80% of the people I know have some sort of android phone… verizon has lots of them… [import]uid: 55582 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 127720[/import]

DavidRangel (Posted on Tue, 2012-10-02 13:37): “We are working on Android push notifications as we speak and they should be in a daily build in a matter of a couple of weeks. I dont have a hard date, but it is a priority and, again, being worked on right now.”

Its now the 22, whats going on with that?
When are we going to see it?

I have a game waiting only for that… [import]uid: 175991 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 128106[/import]

“A couple of weeks” from 10/2 fas been under 3 weeks. They are still in that range… In those three weeks they have had to deal with the Barnes and Noble crisis which has dominated the Android side of the house’s resources… I need theses too but we get them when we get them. Ad fwiw I’d rather the fix my SQL bug first. I can launch without push notifications but I can’t with out this bug fix.

Hey guys - an update on this.
By the end of this week we will have *local* notifications done on Android. Push will come after that - right now we are going to say it will be 2 more weeks to have full push notifications out, but it’s possible it could be done sooner than that.
[import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 128180[/import]

David,

by local do you mean a toast message? or something that can be added to the status bar. [import]uid: 55582 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 128183[/import]

attudesign - it’s the status bar. [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 31525 reply_id: 128185[/import]

Hello,

I can get a window at launch to enable notification for my app, despite many try, and many scripts used. I have rebuilt all the certificats, tried with urbanAirship, pushwoosh (both accept the certificats), single php test,… but the window that should let the user the user auhorize my app never launched…

I have an iPhone 5 with the last built.

Did you ever encountered such a problem ?

Make sure you have the right development or production key lined up with which server to use.
