Rob Please Help Me My Sound Still Isn't Working Thanks

Rob please help me my sounds aren’t working still and we tried building and they work but on the computer they don’t work and we are using the latest build for free users but even when we run the sample codes or our own code it doesn’t work and everything else works do you think that the world of warcraft update is to blame after you said you would ask your team about it because I really don’t want to uninstall it because I am getting the expansion for my birthday?

BUMP PLEASE?  :(

Still not working at all rob

Have you tried uninstalling it and re-installing Corona?

We doubt its the WoW update.  Have you tried running it on your other computer?  Does it work there?

It works on my brothers computer where he has corona installed but it doesnt work on mine even though everything else does and yes I reinstalled it and it still would not work.

Have you checked your volume settings, if you are on Windows 7+ you can mute individual applications, so maybe you muted corona by mistake?

This link may help: http://www.techkings.org/windows-vista-7/33734-mute-individual-applications-windows-7-a.html

My corona sdk is not running on a windows machine

Tell me about your sounds?  What format are the in?  What is the bitrate of the sounds?

And this is very important.  Make sure you don’t have a file called “audio.lua” in your code or are using a variable called “audio”.  This doesn’t explain why any of the test apps are not working, but I just want to make sure.

No I am using the sample code projects and didn’t change them and they dont work too my projects dont either but they only have one lua file which is main and config so actually two do you know the bitrate of the sounds from your own samples because I dont know how to find that out do you think I have to delete warcraft because I really dont want to?

I doubt it’s the WoW update. Keep it installed.

a few things you could do is

  • Reinstall corona ( Yes you have done this, but try to drag the folder to the desktop instead of the applications folder when installing, and try with different builds. You can have multiple builds of corona installed at the same time )
  • You never know, but check that you dont have anything plugged in to your headphone outlet and check that the sound isnt muted.
  • If neither works, uninstall WoW and Corona. Then install Corona again, and check if it works. if it does install WoW again. and if it stops working again it’s WoW.

Hi that didnt work and the sound does work in other apps and I uninstalled warcraft and it took forever to reinstall it but it isnt that so what do you think it is please help me because I am desperate?

I’m having the same issue, just started to “notice” it today while adding some audio functions to a new app.  Tried many different formatting options, even though it’s always worked before, but will not work now.  Loaded up past projects, no audio plays on ANY of them.  Do not have WOW installed.  Have not installed any thing major except latest Corona nightly build.  Going to try to rollback some versions and see what’s going on.

Something doesn’t seem right though.  I’ve been building out apps for months and it’s been fine.  No major change to my machine and audio outputs are golden.

EDIT: Looks like it has something to do with the simulator ( Windows in my case ).  The audio appears to work fine once the app is running on the device.

Have you had any Windows updates applied recently?

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

Yeah, looking at the update log, I’m seeing “Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2781197)” taking place on 3/27 – seems timely.  Anything else I can provide?

Cheers.

We did some testing with the Corona media sample apps on the latest build of Windows and Mac simulator and don’t see any audio problems. This was tested on Windows 7, 32 and 64 bits and on the Mac.

We have not had any formal reports of audio problems.

If you are finding the problem in a daily build, try running the release build (971) or try different daily builds to isolate when it stopped working. Also let us know if the problem occurs with the Corona sample apps or only in your project.

If the audio issue is only with your project, please check that the audio format is supported for the simulator/device. Please file a bug report with a test project that demonstrates the problem.

Thanks,

Tom

Bud, what build of Corona are you  using?  971 or an older public build?

@develephant, have you tried running against our sample apps?

Hi Rob,

I ran the AudioPlayer sample and still get the same result.  I opened the “bouncing” and “note2” media files in the AudioPlayer directory with Windows Media Player and they play fine.

I’ll roll back versions, and give that a try, but there is something amiss.

@Tom: Have you tested against Windows 8 - 64 Bit?  That’s what I’m running.

Cheers.

Here is a video of the issue with the Corona public release on Windows 8 - 64 bit running the AudioPlayer sample code.  In the video I demonstrate the audio not playing in Corona simulator, and then the audio playing via Windows Media Player.  The audio of course works fine on the device.

Again I have this issue on every single project now.

@devephant, We just verified that the latest Corona build plays the audio sample apps on Windows 8, 64 bits.

If you noticed that audio stopped working with a daily build and you went back to the release build 971) and it still doesn’t work, something must have changed in your audio system to affects the audio. Corona uses OpenAL and may take a different audio path than the Media Player app. You could try reinstalling Corona but it sounds like the real fix is figuring out what changed in your system to cause the audio problem to occur.

As a test you could trying running the EventSound sample app. On Windows this will beep one time (it should be once a second but it doesn’t because of a Simulator bug). This goes through a different audio path (not OpenAL) and could indicate if the OpenAL path is causing the problem. This test is more for informational purposes because we really don’t think anything is broken in Corona’s audio engine.

As I mentioned before, no other users are saying that Corona audio is no longer working. The 971 release build has been out since December without any issues in this area and we know a lot of users are using Windows 8.
