Thank you and farewell, Carlos!

Best of luck, take the money and run. [import]uid: 118379 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 100977[/import]

Sad to see you go, but good luck and all the best for the future.

Thanks for all your help! [import]uid: 116264 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 100994[/import]

given the nature of Corona SDK (online compiling, subscription based, non open source), if something bad happens to Ansca
well, wow, that’s a hell of a problem.
I totally agree.
It would have been more logical to get an official announcement from Ansca before this message.
I don’t understand well. What was the point to announce it to customers so quickly? There might be a hidden reason, but it seems a bit awkward to subscribers in the current state.

Of course I wish the best for Carlos, but from a company’s point of view there should be an answer to “what will happen now” before anything personal.
Before anything, we are customers -not friends- and some of us have built their living with Corona.
And those who want to have a more personal relationship already use emails/twitter/fb to get in touch.

Ouch! This is sad news indeed.
Good Luck Carlos!

Hope Corona survives. [import]uid: 64174 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 100999[/import]

I don’t think we have anything to worry about as for as Ansca goes. it is much more then just one person. although Carlos was a big part of it and to me one of the reasons I joined and he will be greatly missed. at this point my biggest question is who will take his place and will they be as accessible, generous, and helpful as Carlos was. [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101005[/import]

Yes Ansca is not just Carlos, but we’ve also to consider that a CEO that until few weeks ago was very engaged on ansca and Corona, left very suddenly the company he also founded.

I’m not saying we’re doomed, just a little worried, and it would be better to have, in the next days, an official communication from Ansca.
As MrMells said, personally I wish Carlos all the best, and hope Corona is going to do great things in the future, but speaking as a customer, I would like to know more to decide what’s best for my business.

The best way to stop all of these rumors is to have an official statement from Ansca. Totally agree that Organizations are bigger than individuals and I hope Ansca has a proper succession plan in place.

I will be keeping a close eye on the Daily Builds. [import]uid: 99244 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101021[/import]

Carlos muchas gracias. Bandiciones y exitos!! [import]uid: 12275 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101035[/import]

Sad to see Carlos go, I will miss seeing him ruthlessly trashing the competition :stuck_out_tongue:

Also sad to see all of these rumors spreading. I know we all put a lot of trust into this company and because everything is done in the cloud it is an especially tense relationship, but the fear mongering is out of hand.

Carlos,
Here’s wishing you prosperity in whatever you decide to tackle next. Thanks for all your support and cheer-leading!

I think the community needs a brief explanation about the future of Corona and plans of Ansca. Do we need to get worried or not ? [import]uid: 73033 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101081[/import]

  1. A few days ago Walter posted on the blog about the future of Corona – I would imagine that Carlos’ leaving was already known at that point.

  2. Carlos posted his “goodbye” on the official Ansca blog – that’s a good sign. If he and Ansca were “mortal enemies” I don’t think that would have happened.

  3. People come and go from companies all the time, and while Carlos was arguably the most visible person at Ansca Mobile, that doesn’t mean he was responsible for engineering the framework.

Carlos and Walter started a company, they took VC funding, and one of the founders left. To start yelling that the sky is falling is probably at least a little premature.

Will it be the same without Carlos around? No way. And that sucks. But it’s not the end of the SDK.

Jay

PS - And #4, Carlos is still on board in an advisory capacity with Ansca Mobile. They didn’t severe all ties. [import]uid: 9440 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101104[/import]

well said jay [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101109[/import]

Well Jay, what you say makes sense but I don’t think that Corona Sdk users that expressed some worry in that thread didn’t take in account the points that you have raised.
I like to think that we have a bit of common sense

That’s not our role (users) to find clues and guess if everything will be ok or not.
There wouldn’t be a point 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 28 if there was an official announcement made.
That’s how business is handled.
We are “customers” but business partners also, and this implies constant communication of what’s happening and where we’re headed.

How can users trust a company that is building apps on their private servers if they don’t communicate more in these days? A co-founder leaving the place is not something happening every month. That’s a major happening. And we can see from this thread that Carlos had a big influence on the community (some say they fell in love with the product thanks to his commitment to make it a game changing product).
Hey, ask the devs who feed their child by building apps with Corona what they think about this?
Do they want to lose time on the forums and worry about what’s happening? No, they want to get things done, pay the bills, and protect their family.
That’s the case for the majority here. Every user can relate to what I’m saying.

That would be very easy to tell us what’s happening, just a blog post + newsletter saying :
“Carlos is leaving, but :
1. everything is planned to make it painless (Corona is our baby too!)
2. our plans for the next future will be to do A.B.C. to compensate his work and experience
3. Carlos remains around and his role as advisor will be to help us with D.E.F.
4. We have hired new members that bring us a new set of skills : Welcome to G and H! We will introduce them later this week.
Stay tuned!”

A bit of enthusiasm, reassurance, motivation, showing a sense of reliability and professionalism.

What I find a bit strange is the silence.
There are so many channels of communication available here and there (forum, blog, newsletter, twitter @ansca, facebook). Not a word about this thread and the feeling of the community, but we know they see what’s happening.
Not to mention the raise of Gideros as a serious alternative.

Hey Ansca, talk to us. It’s getting long.

Basics of running a business in those days : if you are not communicating, then you are hiding.
Sometimes it’s far from the truth, but that’s how customers think and that’s it. That’s the role of the company’s leader to handle that.

Why do Corona sdk users accept apps to be built on private servers? Ease of use. That’s the only reason, but that doesn’t mean this is painless.
And this is only possible if users have a total trust and faith in the company’s reliability..
A tool is just a tool, people fall in love with their vision and not the tool they use to achieve it.

Making (or letting) customers questioning the reliability of your company is not the wisest behavior.
Corona Sdk is a great product, but the silence is damaging his reputation.
I’m sure Ansca is not hiding anything, but they should communicate *very* soon in my opinion.

Ok enough, now give us the link for the announcement and let’s keep getting things done

[import]uid: 95346 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101122[/import]

Good luck Carlos in your future adventures.
Ansca is great and Corona SDK is great.
Thanks for your part in creating them.

I especially appreciate how Corona is supportive of third party tools. This makes for different groups of people taking responsibility for their part of the network of the infrastructure of the corona community. I think more empowering than just growing the organisation though I’m sure brings it’s own challenges.
[import]uid: 67842 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101126[/import]

Hey, ask the devs who feed their child by building apps with Corona what they think about this?

I’m one those developers! For the last year I’ve made my living almost exclusively due to Corona SDK.

In Carlos’ blog post he wrote:

And I’ll still be around as an advisor to the company – which is as strong as it has ever been.

That’s pretty straightforward – from the guy who’s leaving.

Hindsight is 20-20, but Walter probably should have posted his “Here’s what’s coming” post after Carlos posted goodbye instead of 3 days before – but go read them in reverse order, taking into account what Carlos himself said, and it doesn’t appear to be as catastrophic as some people are trying to make it seem.

Walter: http://blog.anscamobile.com/2012/04/kicking-it-up-another-notch/

Jay

PS - But yes, *more* communication from the company in a situation like this is better than less. It is a weekend, but they should have thought of that when they scheduled the announcement.
[import]uid: 9440 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101129[/import]

I’m one those developers!
I know well, it really was not something against you sorry if you understood it that way

I believe that the links that you gave lead to some informations that could be related, but this doesn’t sound like an official announcement of Ansca addressing the fact that Carlos is leaving, how it will (not) affect the current roadmap, and how they will tackle his absence (skills+experience+work done on a daily basis) by bringing new people.

Being an advisor is different than working on a product that you have built from day one, and a company losing one of its leader (or any charismatic person) becomes a different company.
That’s just my opinion, nothing more.

The rule is not “nothing changes” but “things are changing but here is how we are going to evolve, to take it a step further. Here is the plan”.

Yes we agree that we shouldn’t be talking about “what Ansca is up to” right? They should tell us.
On monday, probably! (it’s already monday where I live, I sometimes forget about the difference).
[import]uid: 95346 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101135[/import]

Trying to be CALM right now and after reading all here, I do agree with @MrMells and @Jay about the subject.

Will be waiting for some Ansca News, and hope to see it soon.
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 24823 reply_id: 101136[/import]

So sorry to hear you’ve left, Carlos. I can only guess how this might’ve come about
No matter what you say, it can’t be a painless departure. Corona SDK is your (and Walter’s) baby after all.

When I picked up Corona SDK, the thriving & super helpful community was what made it worthwhile for me to invest my time and effort to learn it. I’ve always thought that the culture of this wonderful community came about largely due to your effort. Your (and Walter’s) vision for the product plus your natural inclination to be friendly and be human about being right here with us made the Corona SDK special to me – and eventually encouraged me to be active in it too (and believe me, I usually don’t do this sort of thing.) I also think that the way Ansca Staff participate in Forum was largely due to your influence.

I hope things will not change with you gone. [note: I meant, in terms of the positive aspect of the Corona community in general. As a company, Ansca will have to continually change and adopt to the changing world.]

And
your presence will be missed. If you have time and any inclination, please do participate in Forum every so often. Any knowledge you can share will always be appreciated.

I wish you the best of luck and the great success with any new adventure you’d take on.
