I am wanting to use AdMob for my ads, problem is I need my ads to be COPPA compliant. AdMob has added child-directed setting (https://developers.google.com/mobile-ads-sdk/docs/admob/additional-controls) to tag apps as children based so they can remain COPPA compliant. My question is, is that setting available in Corona so we can use AdMob for children’s apps? We need to pass an “Extras” variable to AdMob’s SDK (tag_for_child_directed_treatment), is that implemented in Corona yet?
2 months and no answer from Corona???

chevol - we hear you on this and clearly our Admob plugin does not yet support this.
We will try to get to it soon, but it is not at the top of our list at the moment.

When is this going to be supported?
Another great example for poor prioritization on the part of Corona Labs leadership…
One one side, allowing developers continue using an existing monetization solution and meet “legal” requirements…
On the other side, add many features that may or may not be highly in demand. Look at the last 4 months worth of release updates on the blog and you will get the picture… Sadly this was not one of those items that rose to the top of the list and maybe it never will as developers have no choice but migrate to other COPPA compliant solutions.
You have Composer, Corona Editor and an updated Code Exchange to be thankful in the meanwhile though. Now be thankful please…

I don’t know, ksan, ads in apps directed at kids are somewhat universally abhorred, so I can understand why that wouldn’t be a high priority for Corona Labs.
I think it goes:
Devs who use ads in apps (subset)
Devs who use AdMob (smaller subset)
Devs who use AdMob for apps aimed at children (even smaller subset)
So putting that lower on their prioritization list kind of makes sense (to me).
I have a couple free apps with decent (or more) downloads that I’d like to monetize, but haven’t figured out a good way to do that yet since I don’t want the backlash that putting in ads could give me.

I mostly agree with you Whye about ads in kid apps, I mostly like it for the idea of not tracking as much information about users in general (not just in kid apps)
Yeah, that’s a good point. I *do* think it would be a great addition to the plugin, I just see why CL might rank it lower on their to-do list.

I’d like to see this as well since I have been thinking about making some kids games…
There’s a big difference between the two. not being COPPA compliant is a show stopper for all devs working the kids games angle. many of them, by the way are using ads. having new features like editor or composer are nice to have but not a must. there are very good alternatives. I haven’t found a need to migrate to any of them or to the new transitions model etc.
on the other hand crucial plug ins like Amazon, Flurry, AdMob and few others are not being updated to new APIs which leave us crippled against competition.
Sorry to say but CL do have a problem in prioritizing and understanding their delicate position in the platforms arena.
