Why is Corona Levels gone from the site?

Would be nice to know what is happening with Levels…
is it cancelled or what?

I wouldn’t take this as a solid answer without someone from the Corona team confirming it, but I believe it was cancelled. The main developer behind Levels is no longer with CoronaLabs either. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135435[/import]

Back when it was first talked about most on here was wanting more stability and features in the sdk then a level editor since there were other products that did this well already. [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135437[/import]

Damn, was really looking forward to levels. [import]uid: 62706 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135440[/import]

The page is still accessible - just search for it on Google.

I imagine Corona Labs (correctly) took the links down due to some flak regarding its almost vapourware like status. What’s the point in promoting it if it’s not ready?

However it does seem to suggest it won’t be ready anytime soon.

In that case it would be good if Corona Labs would officially endorse one of the 3rd-party options available - between Lime gaining a new home, Level Helper, Level Builder, etc… I think to clarify the situation would help both veterans and newcomers. You can’t really build 30+ stage based games entirely in code (well you can, but it takes time).

P.S Corona Labs - be good to get something like this back in action again http://atg.anscamobile.com/  Stumbled upon it again when I was looking up Corona Levels. [import]uid: 33275 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135445[/import]

Well, I was also looking forward to Levels. Hoping for an easy to use, drag & drop game level and (maybe) GUI editor to accelerate game AND business app development.

Maybe can someone from the Coronalabs staff make a statement on the status of Levels? [import]uid: 106768 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135491[/import]

Just wondering what everyone thought levels was going to do
That other 3rd party apps don’t do? [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135493[/import]

Hey Everyone - ok, here is the deal:

We have not “killed” Levels, however, we do know that it still needs significant work to get to a release. And, as mentioned above, there are already products out there that fulfill at least part of this need (e.g., Level Helper, Level Director). Because of this we have definitely de-emphasized it for now. We believe our developers will get more benefit from Corona SDK improvements rather than from Levels in the near future.

We may still release it sometime in the next year, but it is not imminent.

I also want to say that we did not intent to be misleading - which is why we have now taken down the Levels pages (or at least unlinked them from the rest of the site :). A few months back, the plan was definitely to finish and release it. But things do change and that is the current status. Rest assured that this has zero impact on Corona SDK.

Thanks,

David

As stated, however, have you sampled third-party editors like Level Helper? Especially if you’d like to introduce Corona/apps to your kids, LH provides a very visual and “friendly” environment for new users, while maintaining enough power to build full games too. It might not be ideal for all developers, but it’s made a lot of progress in the past year and if you checked it out long ago, it might warrant another look.

AlexM2 - you are right, Jon was the main guy on Levels. However that doesn’t mean that what I wrote does not hold. If we thought Levels should be a priority and that it was close to being ready, we now have 2 new Frameworks engineers that could work on it. But, as I said above, it is not a priority right now. That may change in the future.

Like Brent said, maybe you can give one of the other options a chance. They are good tools and for now it doesn’t make much sense for us to re-do work they have done. [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135621[/import]

I would like to see a viewer app for corona before levels so testing on device would be much simplier
And a mobile version of the forum [import]uid: 7911 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135661[/import]

I fully support more work going into the SDK as opposed to a level editor. [import]uid: 147305 topic_id: 34061 reply_id: 135678[/import]

“I fully support more work going into the SDK as opposed to a level editor.”

Me, too. (But then, I have an ulterior motive…)
