Introduce yourself

Hello All,

My name is Joseph A Mauke, I am a veteran of the games industry. I have been working in the console-PC space for many years as a Designer/ Tech-Designer. I have worked for some heavy hitters such as Electronic Arts, THQ, and Atari. I’ve worked on games such as Medal of Honor, SpongeBob, Cars, Snoopy, and many others.

I started in games like a lot of us did, as a hobby, or just for the pure love of the game. After my last layoff I moved back to my roots and decided to take a crack at the mobile space. With its low barrier to entry, and growing install base, it was a no brainer. And I was drawn to Corona because it was using LUA, a widely used scripting language in the games industry. I love its flexibility, low learning curve, and robust nature. Add that to a great community of developers, an approachable engine developer (and thats saying a lot since I have worked with Unreal3, & CryEngine3) and you have a great environment for creativity.

I have just released my first game after 2 short months, and am ramping for my next.

Please check me, and my current app out at:

Hey gang!

I’m Josh from Colorado. Joined the corona family back in October 2010 but got off to a rough start due to my lack of code background. Like Peachpellen, I had some roots in Gamesalad, but jumped ship when it caught fire during the same time she mentioned. A much better program/community here!

I’m grateful for the quality communication from the brains inside Ansca and for the fantastically helpful tutorial creators.

I work full time, am married and have a 5 mo old baby girl and do this on the side as much as possible.

Currently I’m working on porting my first game from GS over to corona and also am working up an original at the same time. Quite the endeavor!

I am loving it though!
Peace,

-Josh [import]uid: 10361 topic_id: 5909 reply_id: 28342[/import]

Hello everyone!

My name is Chris Bryant, also living in Northern California from a little town near Ansca HQ called Los Gatos. (what up from down the street Carlos!) I am a full time guitar teacher and owner of Chris Bryant Guitar School (http://www.chrisbryantguitar.com) I teach guitar by day and now, thanks to Ansca Mobile, I code by night.

I’m what you would call the Corona archetype of sorts…before joining the community here, I had absolutely ZERO coding experience. I’ve been around technology and computers all my life, but always on the artistic side of things and was envious of those who could write in languages I didn’t understand!

I knew what I wanted to do, but had no means to actually get there. Once I started tooling around with the SDK, I started to see that those dreams I had were actually possible! Thanks to the help of the community and some pretty awesome peeps (Peach, you rock!) I’ve come full circle in such a short amount of time.

My fiance Jeanne is a graphic artist (http://www.twinsoulartstudio.com) and together we are working on our first project. I am doing the code and content and she provides the images. (Jon & Biffy, kindred spirits perhaps?) We are now at the brink of releasing our first app: a guitar teaching app, of course!

Looking forward to many more interactions with all of you in the future.

Thanks everyone and rock on!

Chris

p.s. Our website for the app isn’t setup yet but as soon as it’s done I’ll post it. You can find me on twitter at @cbguitarschool

Hi Everyone…
I am Kimberly Irizarry, currently residing in Texas. I am new to the app development business, but not to programming. I just started with Corona, and quite frankly I am absolutely loving it! I do have some questions… for one… I downloaded Jonathan Beebe’s open source game Martian Control and created a new game out of it, while trying to learn Corona, I am hopeful that is something that Is not frowned upon. At any rate a video of the version i created of the game in the first couple of days of using corona can be viewed here…

Hi,

My names Gaz and I just signed up to the subscription.

I have created and almost finished my first game. It’s a port from my gamesalad game “Bounty Hunter”.

I switched to corona due to the speed at which the product is developing, and the ability to use openfeint. Not to mention the loading speeds compared to GS.

I thought I had it all done, but the temptation to implement the GameCenter support is too great! Although I can’t seem to get it working.

Hi All,

My name is Dzul, I do mobile application development in my after hours through the brand wiremuch.com. You can find out more at http://www.wiremuch.com.

I’ve just recently launched my game SlideItOut (the iPhone http://bit.ly/fOCUWE and iPad version http://bit.ly/eiiMwR is in the Appstore) and the Mac version is being reviewed. Currently it’s featured in New and Noteworth in Australia, Japan and Netherlands. The app was done in Objective-C which has a lot of freedom but also requires a lot of time. Towards the end, I’ve found out about Corona and tried it out. I was amazed at how agile and how fast I can do a game. This helps alot when you also have a day job. I now challenge myself to come out with a simple game within the next few days and post to the Android market. Watch this space  Corona helps because unlike SlideItOut which I wrote in objective-c, i can now write once and run on both Android and iDevices. (only thing that I can’t do is Mac platform which I hope will be possible soon, anybody care to comment?)

On a side note, one ambitious project I have at the moment is to teach my 5 year old daughter Anika how to do hello world program in 6 different languages and I think Corona SDK will definitely be one of the language! Read it at http://www.sixbeforesix.com The grand finale is an iPhone App that I will help her publish into the Appstore. It’ll do something really simple but I will get an unedited footage of her doing it from beginning till the end. That’s my goal. So far still on track

Looking forward to the months ahead.

Regards

Cheers!!

My name is Daniel… Aiden is my son’s name

I am a programmer primarily in C/C++ and cocoa (obj c). I just finished my first game using cocos2d for iphone and hard at work on 2nd project. I picked up corona while ago but was too busy to really dive in and play with it… but after disappointing experience with GameSalad, I have decided to bite the bullet and pickup corona and Lua.

I am so far very pleased with api set of corona and easy script like aspect of Lua. I can make some complaints about Lua but so far I am happy.

I am in love with this community btw too  Very nice people and bright future ahead for corona.

I hope to make something big out of using corona and return some contribution to the community.

Anyways, nice to meet you all

Cheers!! [import]uid: 13978 topic_id: 5909 reply_id: 29767[/import]

Hello:

I’ve been a programmer since my first Apple II Plus that my Mother and Grandmother bought for me when I was in Junior High. I have favored Apple ever since! My second love is Linux. I’ve been using C/C++ since the late 80’s, and Objective-C since around 2000. I’ve also used many scripting languages, including Lua. Until now, I’ve been using Objective-C with iOS, Cocos2D, and occasionally Unity3d for iPhone games. After playing with the demo, I was sold on Corona, and became a subscriber.

Coming from having so much control over what I can do ( in ObjC/C ), I admit that in many areas, I’ve found Corona to be very limiting. BUT, that being said, I’ve also found that within the parameters of what it is capable of, Corona makes some hard things VERY easy, too. And, it’s a LOT of fun. IMHO, it’s well worth the money ( which is why I purchased a subscription )! I’m very excited to enjoy Corona as it grows and matures.

So, I am happy to join the “family”, and look forward to our all creating some really great stuff with Corona. [import]uid: 49546 topic_id: 5909 reply_id: 31716[/import]

I’ve been a developer for nearly 20 years, primarily in the microsoft world, however I have created some native java android applications and I’m happy to say I am finally in a position in my life to pursue my real passions which revolve around gaming and the creative side of development. I also have some experience in working with Blender, Photoshop, Paint.net, Gimp and play the guitar.

Languages I love include Pascal, VB, VB.net, C#, java, C/C++ and now Lua!

After creating native android applications, sampling other tools such as Unity I am convinced that the best price point and value for an indie developer trying to pursue his own dreams that Corona is what I have been searching for! I plan on releasing my first Corona application this next wekend, I’m just re-tooling it a bit to take advantage of the new coronaui

I will be contributing to the community in any way I can and hope to assist even a fraction of what I learn from everyone.

–Croisened

Hi, my name is Richard. I am based in east Dorset in the south west of England, UK.

I am developing games (and other apps) using Corona. I started my career as a programmer working mainly in machine code/assembler. I stopped programming for a while to spend time in Africa and then a few years building indoor rock climbing walls.

My interest is in 2D games, often physics based but not exclusively. After lots of research I decided that Corona was the best SDK for me. My reasons;- Corona is relatively easy to learn, fast development, built-in physics engine, an active supportive community, code produced is fast, multi platform, etc.

I am interested in meeting and collaborating with fellow developers, especially if you are local to me.

I went to Ansca’s first “developer kitchen”. Carlos, Walter and their team were very friendly and helpful. Chatting with Carlos I learnt the origins of the Ansca name; it was the name of the cotton farm where he grew up in Nicaragua (Algodoneros Nicaraguenses Sociedad Coooperativa Agricola).

My email address is richard@idood.com

Hi,

My name is Jon, I live in Sydney, Australia, originally from the UK.

I have worked in IT since 1984, developing business applications. I have used many programming languages over the years, too many to mention here.

I discovered Corona in my search for an iOS development framework that would allow me to quickly build apps for a recently purchased iPad, in my very limited spare time. I was sold when I was able to develop a simple game in just a few hours.

I love Coronas simplicity and speed of development. The Lua language is very powerful, although not a true OOP language Lua’s table and metatable constructs enable the building of classes with inheritance and encapsulation.

Finally, I believe you can judge how good a development environment is from its community. The Corona community is incredibly generous and friendly, a great resource. Very impressed to see Carlos and Walter involved despite their heavy work load.
Thanks

Jon
