Welcome to inneractive

@KenRogoway: Did you develop California Games? If so, thank you. [import]uid: 120 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 80766[/import]

Update on case #11605… See below:

I have heard back from ANSCA on this now. It seems we are stuck with the odd behaviour for Android because it is just the way that Inneractive has implemented their library. A very odd decision to say the least, one that I will still call a “BUG”.

Ansca’s suggestion was to possibly dedicate the top right as an alternative by setting a different X position. This does not suit me as it contains interface that cannot be covered, so it is in fact the same effect as having the full black bar covering it.

I am looking at setting it to bottom right, but the ads are a little inconsistent on different devices. Eg. HTC Evo 4G Galaxy Nexus Xoom all look different and the xoom in particular looks very different.

“I have now logged this Black Bar problem on Android as a bug with
Ansca case #11605. Hopefully it will be fixed quickly.” [import]uid: 28534 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 80963[/import]

@bryan,

It’s off-topic, but yes, I was on the small team that did California Games for the PC. I wrote the core graphics and sound routines used by all of the different games in CG.

WOooW…Did you say California Games @Ken? o.O :slight_smile:

Did you code part of that game?
Hahaha…I used to LOVE that…Surf, skate, wow! What a memmory! lol

Congratulations mate,

When you started to code I wasn`t in this world yet. lol
Cheers,
Rodrigo.

PS: About our “Android” case" am going to have more time when close to the weekend. Thank btw for your patience.

I posted a feature request regarding the fullscreen inneractive ads here. If any of you feel the same way, it would be nice if you’d +1 it (or post same/similar request there) so that Ansca will consider this seriously?

Anyone know what might be wrong?

So far these ads are very easy to implement so kudos to all involved. I do have a couple of questions though before we release updated apps to the iStore with the new ads in them…

How do we enable the ‘restricted’ mode? I was reading on the interactive site about this mode where it will not display ‘Adult’ oriented ads. I could really use this feature in some of our apps.

How do ‘stretch’ and iPhone ad for a landscape app? I can center the ad fine, but really would like to stretch it across the entire bottom of the screen (or top).

I did look on the forums, and I didn’t find answers to those 2 questions (although I could have missed it) so please let me know if it is in the forums somewhere and I’m being blind - :slight_smile: [import]uid: 87791 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 81757[/import]

@eroth,

To restrict it from adult adds make sure in your Publisher Dashboard you set the Category to something other than ALL or ADULT.

Ideally Inneractive (Orly, please take note of this), you can specify the different ad types that are acceptable instead of just setting the category for your app. Seriously, I would expect that anyone playing a puzzle game would be open to seeing ads for other types of games too.

As for “stretch” is NOT allowed by Ansca for Inneractive ads. Instead of making Inneractive ads a display object (like the inMobi ads) the ads.show() returns NOTHING. This means you don’t even know if Inneractive sends you an ad that doesn’t conform to the MMA guidelines (which seems to happen a fair amount of the time).

Orly replied to an email of mine on this topic with the following response:

As we work with over 100 ad-networks and over 80 local agencies – we follow the MMA guideline.
The principle here is that we present the ads that we receive, meaning sizes that we receive.
Most of the industry is working with the 6 sizes that I have presented to you before, and this is most of the inventory that we have in terms of ads. We do receive sometimes other sizes which we try to resize into the 6 formats that we usually work.

Unfortunately the ads do NOT always conform the the MMA guidelines. This really means that Ansca needs to return the ad as an display object. They cannot just return the width/height on the ads.show() call because by that time the ad is already on the screen and cannot be moved. The next ad that is shown may or may not be the same size!

@KenRogoway

Thanks! that helps a lot :slight_smile: [import]uid: 87791 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 81790[/import]

Hi Orly!

Regarding the black bar issue, I believe it’s worth pointing out that the bar shows ONLY if the ad is centered, or is within the screen boundaries.

What I mean, is that aligning the ad to the right side of the screen (where right border of the ad touches the screen border) will still result with the black bar being present, but aligning the ad slightly off-screen (so that the right border of the ad is “behind” the right border of the screen) will make the black bar disapear.

I hope this observation may be of help for Inneractive team.

I sincerely hope this issue will be solved quickly, as it looks very very very ugly, and more -> it takes away a lot of screen place (in my case, black bar hides the openfeint button, which I really love to use, and openfeint works only while being online, and the offcourse the ads are shown, thus openfeint button isn’t visible anymore:)

Have a great day to all of You!

@eroth and Ken

At inneractive we put our efforts to make our ads clean from adult content. Our ad-networks and local agencies know that we do not wish to serve this content (the categories that appear in the dashboard are for internal use and even if someone will require this category - we will not start presenting adult content on his traffic).
Having said that, sometimes we come across networks that send adult ads and with the help of developers we manage to detect it and stop the campaign.

If you choose “Brain and Puzzles” as your category - you will still receive business, entertainment, lifestyle etc ads.

Hope this helps :slight_smile: [import]uid: 109623 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 81896[/import]

@orly

The category that returned adult oriented ads was ‘Lifestyle’. there were not a lot of them, but still a few one the less. I will try changing my age group and category as it was set to ‘All’ and ‘Lifestyle’ [import]uid: 87791 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 81897[/import]

Inneractive Ads Worth Using?

I have an App that I am ready to send to the Apple Store.
I have one version with Inneractive Ads working and one without. I have some reservations about the one with ads for the reasons below. Perhaps you could shed some light on my concerns.

  1. In testing my app with ads the selection of ads seems rather limited. Usually a "Texas Hold’em ", “You have1 New Message”, or “3 missed calls” for example. I do not think those type of ads will generate clicks.
  2. If you do get a click it only generates 1 cent. It would take a lot of clicks to generate any kind of revenue. Again the ads have to be of interest even to generate a click.
  3. If you leave the app and go to another and then come back by double clicking the home button on the iPhone the ads sometime do not refresh.

Convince me why I should send the ads version of my app.

Thanks [import]uid: 22152 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82055[/import]

Well, a lot depends on how successful you will be at selling your app or implementing in-app purchases.

In the iOS world, people are more used to buying apps. There is some thought that the Kindle Fire market will also be a buyers market. But the Android market in general is used to having everything free. If you’re planning on making any money in the Android world, it’s going to have to be with ads.

A penny a click ads up. I’m actually averting a bit over 2 cents a click, though my fill rate over the past few days has dropped to around 50%.

Advertising is about having 10s of thousands of apps out there so that the pennies add up. If you’re going to sell your app, you should not have ads.

Please @Orly or someone else, what is happening below since today morning when trying to create a new Ads under Inneractive`s dashboard?

Thanks,
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82077[/import]

“though my fill rate over the past few days has dropped to around 50%.”

Yeah, this has also been my experience, since Thursday. [import]uid: 64596 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82390[/import]

I plan on using banner ads for selected screens in my latest app and I decided to give Inneractive a try. The problem I’m having is it sometimes takes several seconds for the ad to display once it’s requested.
Is anyone else having the same problem?

Jeff
[import]uid: 14119 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82573[/import]

I get here at least 5 counted seconds to see any Ads. BTW sometimes still cannot see nothing as the missing fill rate to show the ads.

[import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82600[/import]

They do fill but If you leave the app and go to another and then come back by double clicking the home button on the iPhone the ads sometime do not refresh to another ad. [import]uid: 22152 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82604[/import]

@Orly, is there a way we can filter the ads or keywords? i have a childrens app in which the ads being displayed are Adult orientated such as (Be Naughty Chat) type ads… which for me is inapropriate for a kids/toddlers app… please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris. [import]uid: 59172 topic_id: 19981 reply_id: 82872[/import]
